25 24 A R T & C U LT U R E By: Ashraf Reda Another Blossoming of Art this Fall in Cultural Hub Zamalek Z amalek is once again the host to an array of artistic talent this fall as the home of most of Cairo’s premier galleries and exhibition spaces prepare to kick off their new seasons with a flurry of color and creativity. This fall sees the island’s gallerists convene an eclectic mix of both young and established contemporary names exhibit their works under diverse themes, as well as a strong female presence among exhibiting artists. From October 2 nd through 23 rd at Safarkhan, discover a collective of four aspiring female artists; Ghaidaa Ashraf, Kinda Adly, Sara Tantawy and Yousra Hafad. This exhibition is titled “Blossoming,” which alludes to their shared path as young women of aspiration, achievement and ambition. Ibrahim Khatab follows from October 29 th to November 19 th in another alluring display of color-crazed mixed media canvases. Khatab’s latest show is titled “Kemit” (Egypt’s original Wael Abed Mohamed Kamal name in antiquity) and moving away from his characteristic focus on calligraphy, is duly inspired by the bas-reliefs, hieroglyphics and symbolistic art of Pharaonic times. Zamalek Art Gallery is opening its doors on September 22 nd to unleash “STRATA”, a group photography exhibition, showing the latest work by Artists Abdallah Shaarawi, Abdelrahman Samy, Eslam Abdel Salam, Fares Zaitoon, Fatma Abodoma, Karim El Hayawan, Nada El Shorbagy, Natasha Yonan, Nelly El Sharkawy and Nour Kamel. Gallery Misr will be organizing another collective exhibition, this one featuring renowned names of contemporary art Adel El Siwi and Mohamed Abla, along with Islam Zaher and Ibrahim El Dessouki, who will be featuring their assorted works alongside one another from September 22 nd to October 21 st under the title “As I Am” in what promises to be a feast for the eyes with so much different yet complementary art on display simultaneously. Picasso Gallery in Zamalek will be exhibiting simultaneous separate exhibitions by Mohamed Kamal and Wael Abed from September 15 th to 30 th in their “Fountain of Light” and “Desert Visage” shows respectively. Kamal is both an artist & art critic, writing for Egyptian and Arab publications, Wael Abed has spent decades documenting the Egyptian deserts. He is the author of “The Other Egypt, Zamalek” and “My Home Island and Desert Haven: Stories from an Egyptian Oasis.” Nile Art Gallery will be hosting a marvelous collection of the works of fresh young artists at its Mohamed Anis venue, while Art Talks will be home to “UNCENSORED” by Samir Rafi, opening September 24 th through 5 th . Sheds light on a puzzling artist, who seems to have never admitted that the grass is after all not greener on the other side. Blossoming Ibrahim El Desouki
